Tegernsee calling! Gain insights into the Swiss Championship plannings

This year’s blu26 International Swiss Championship will be taking place on Lake Tegernsee 15-17 September, amid gentle hills and wooded moutains.

Let’s find out more about the exceptional setting, the Bavarian hospitality and what the crews are to expect.

Stephan Eder, Managing Director of Sailing Center Tegernsee, the local sailing school, unveils a preview:

Tegernsee has become a fixpoint on the yearly blu26 regatta program. This year, for the first time, the Yacht-Club Bad Wiessee and the Sailing Club Pfäffikon co-host the blu26 International Swiss Championship. What are the happenings planned for this major event?
To welcome the crews on Thursday the YCBW offers free Tegernseer beer while hoisting the boats into the lake. Races will take place from Friday until Sunday with hopefully good wind conditions, served by the reliable thermical wind system of the Tegernsee valley. On Friday evening, traditionally there is a dinner in the famous Bräustüberl Tegernsee planned, and on Saturday the sailors are invited for a barbecue in the YCBW with a party and live band afterwards.

Taking the Tegernsee characteristics into account, what crew and individual capacities are key for successful runs?
The lake of Tegernsee offers a quite good rate of medium wind force. Due to the mountains around, the wind is often shifty and gusty, so the sailors must sail very attentively.

Sailing Center Tegernsee, the local sailing school, is much engaged in developing young sailing talents. Can you share any insights to the program?
The sailing center offers and sponsors training programs for young sailors, who are growing out of the youth sailing classes like 420er and 29er. At the moment, we have 12 sailors in our squad, who are training regularly on blu26. We get good support of some blu26 owners. The objective is to take part in blu26 class races as well as in the German Bundesliga next year with success.

Reviewing your sailing career, what was the most significant experience with the blu26 boat on Tegernsee for you?
Since 2009 we have a daily blu26 experience from April until October, running six blu’s on our lake. And every day we think, there is no other boat, which would fit out lake better!
