Blu26 Cup Zurich & Bluboats Cup 2017: A double win for Engadin!

Last weekend, 30.9./1.10.17, eleven crews met in the Zurich lake basin for the last blu26 regatta of the season along two exciting racing days!

It was less the wind, but rather the very tight runup for the season’s victory that stretched the thrill until the very last run. The St. Moritz sailors must have said ‘two are better than one’ and carried the triumphs away! Team ‘Giachen Duos’ wins the blu26 Cup Zurich as well as the bluboats Cup 2017.

Lake Zurich is full of surprises! Saturday proofed to be a fruitful sailing day offering good wind conditions along overall four dynamic races. Volatile situations required a good sense and eye for the ideal breeze. On Sunday, the regatta rounded off with one more race. A high level was set: the starting field included all frontrunners of the season. Team ‘Giachen Duos’ with Ricardo Zweifel from St. Moritz led the field and won the blu26 Cup Zurich, tightly followed by team ‘Hazel’ with Michael Klötzli and Team ‘Giachen Ün’ with Marianne Weber.

Aside the regatta victory, ‘Giachen Duos’ also sew the bluboats Cup 2017 up. «This wasn’t really expected by mid-season”, said Ricardo Zweifel. The team compensated some rank drops along the season with successful runs at the blu26 International Swiss Championship on lake Tegernsee. “The regular trainings, the blu squadron, and the great infrastructure of the Sailing Club St. Moritz largely contribute to this success”, Ricardo confirms. In total 29 teams were listed for this season’s ranking – more than ever!

Ahead of the regatta weekend, the yearly general assembly of the blu26 International Class Association took place on Friday evening - with honors and nominations. Thereby the assembly decided to nominate the outgoing president Daniel Lucchini as well as sailing personality Christian ‘Blumi’ Scherrer as honorable members of the association. The presidential rudder will newly be steered by Thomas Grob.

The blu26 class highly appreciated and thanks the Yacht Club Zurich for the professional organization and execution of the Züricher Herbstpreis 2017, as well as for the generous hosting of all three evenings, including the festive price-giving ceremony.
