The blu26 class kicks off a new era at Lake Garda

After celebrating its 10thanniversary along 2018, the blu26 class has entered a new decade with the 10thedition of its traditional Regatta Training Camp. From March 28 to 31, eight teams took advantage of this exclusive opportunity and joined Christian ‘Blumi’ Scherrer and Stephan Eder for an intense training across four sunny days.

With great winds of 12 to 15 knots and a touch of Mediterranean feeling, Lake Garda ensured perfect training conditions, whileSailing Club Fraglia della Vela Riva offered an ideal home base for the crews to live up the unique blu26 ‘big family’ feeling. Not only a new decade but also new, exciting sailing destinations are awaiting the class.

Opening up the season with this training isn’t just exciting for the sailors, it puts everyone back at the forefront of trim, tactics, and gets the crews involved in the regatta mode after the winter break. And blu26 newcomers get to know the class’ big appeal. “The regatta training is our priority”, Michael Klötzli of team Hazel confirms. “From the ski straight into sailing shoes, we encountered amazing conditions with great winds in a wonderful sailing area. It was a perfect start into the new season!“

Upon arrival in Riva on Wednesday all boats were launched, followed by a first briefing. The program on Thursday focused on timely lineups, up-and-down and ideal trim. Friday and Saturday were all about training starts and first races. The teams were very engaged during the debriefing sessions and comprehensive video analysis, which help recognize strengths, as well as opportunities for improvement. The classical regatta to Castelletto for lunch at Da Umberto was again a highlight. The excellent hospitality and a special Anniversary-Tiramisù ensured a most memorable experience. The camp rounded off with an exciting regatta with six runs, whereas the coaches noticed a general improvement across all these years, which raised the competitive threshold.

A big ‘thank you’ to Christian ‘Blumi’ Scherrer and Stephan Eder, as well as to the Sailing Club Fraglia della Vela Riva, for their great engagement and generous hospitality to realize the 10thblu26 Regatta Training Camp.
