Sailing season kicks off with a unique training and racing combo

After numerous weeks of severe restrictions, the past weekend was the time to kick off the blu26 season 2020 with a Swiss version of the traditional blu26 Garda camp – this time in Zug.

Christian “Blumi” Scherrer took center stage offering an exclusive sailing training on Friday and Saturday morning, followed by the blu26 Cup on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. The nine teams from all over Switzerland and Southern Germany that participated, are now eyeing to win the bluboats Cup 2020!

This first blu26 sailing event offered a first in time training and racing combo. Friday and Saturday morning, Christian “Blumi” Scherrer led an exclusive training including a rich program of well-orchestrated lineups, starts, and maneuvers. Based on an almost one-to-crew coaching, systematic debriefs with in-depth video analysis from various angles, including a drone perspective, every team improved their skills notably and developed winning strategies to tackle the blu26 Cup to follow. The Saturday afternoon racing began with a clam breeze from the south, which soon geared up considerable 5-6 bft. Three exciting races were effected with a backdrop of spectacular, almost dramatic skies.

On Sunday early morning the teams were ready to start facing light winds. Three start attempts allowed for one valid race. The event closed with a collective debrief of the races and the prize giving ceremony. The winning team Hazel with skipper Michael Klötzli, was followed by team Voodoo Child with skipper David Menti second, and team blutwo with skipper Silvan Bohren third. Looking back on three long days, all sailors appreciated the training tremendously and benefitted from Christian Scherrer’s extensive experience and knowledge.
