Sunshine and savvy sailing at the blu26 Bayern Cup

The Danish team wins the blu26 Bayern Cup 2021. After previous second and third places, the crew with skipper Soeren Laugesen have made it to the outstanding first place. Last weekend, 12 sailing teams from Germany, Switzerland and Denmark met at the starting line and competed in 9 exciting races over two days. In the end, the victory goes to Denmark.

In the most beautiful late summer sun and initially light wind conditions from north-east, the cup kicked off on Saturday early afternoon. 5 exciting races could be sailed and after this first day already, the Danish team had positioned itself in second place. Leading was Giachen Ün from Engadine. On Sunday morning the sailing started remarkedly early, with the first gun at 7am, to benefit from the thermal south wind, which then turned north and turned up significantly. 4 more close races could be carried out benefitting of a lively 5 Bft wind. A sailing day from a picture book!

Soeren Laugesen and his crew were able to advance further and ultimately had a clear lead. The victory went to the Danes, that held out against tough competition, closely followed by team Giachen Duos with skipper Fabrice Kohler, and team Giachen Ūn with skipper Wim Rossel, both crews from the sailing club St. Moritz.

Of course, the conviviality was not neglected. Everyone met on Friday at the Tegernseer Bräustüberl, with some fully entering into the spirit of the evening wearing a Dirndl and Lederhosen. On Saturday, the Yacht Club Bad Wiessee welcomed the teams. All in all, a good atmosphere, a great sporting spirit, and a successful event. The blu26 class thanks the local yacht club, the organizing committee, and all helpers for the usual excellent Bavarian hospitality - and is already looking forward to being able to carry out the Swiss Championship 2022 at Lake Tegernsee!
