Team Hazel wins Blu26 Bavaria Cup

According to tradition, most of the teams got together as early as Friday evening – after a training session in the afternoon – at the Bräustüberl in Tegernsee for at least one beer and a typical Bavarian dinner. Dressed in lederhosen, dirndls, and a good mood, the beginning of this year’s Bavaria Cup and Oktoberfest were celebrated extensively.

14 boats with crews reported for the weekend. New participants were the Wolfgang Nemetz’s team from Wolfgangsee/AUT and Petra Brendle’s team from Bodensee/GER. With such a large fleet, an exciting competition could have been expected in advance.

The teams prepared to sail after the official greeting and the skipper meeting. The rain did not pose a problem since it is common knowledge that there is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing. The first race could be started shortly after lunch. With a nice 2-3 Beaufort, the wind shifts demanded full concentration. Team Hazel won the first run with 3 rounds and a duration of 57’. Unfortunately, the weather did not improve and the wind steadily rotating from SE to SW did not allow the Race Committee to start the second race right after. A delay had to be signaled.

This pause was used to warm up and to have a late lunch at the restaurant Seepferdchen. The signal to sail was given at around 4 pm. The second race of the regatta was held at a wind speed of 3 Beaufort, again 3 rounds and wonderful sailing conditions, which was also won by team Hazel. The third race had to be ended after the first windward mark because of the sharply changing wind conditions.

In the evening, everyone met again for a joint dinner in a friendly atmosphere at the Yacht Club. Occasional sunshine was announced for Sunday. However, the wind had greatly subsided. Unfortunately, no other races could be started that day. The humidity increased again just in time for haul-out and the award ceremony... We can look back to an, unfortunately, rainy but successful weekend.

Many thanks to the Tegernsee Ducal Bavarian brewery and the other prize sponsors for the great prices, to Wolfgang Kordes's Race Committee, Uli Gasch's jury, the Sailing Center with Stefan Eder, President of the YCBW Peter Kathan and all those involved helping to make this a great event.

The next event is the end-of-the-season with the Blu26 Cup Zurich on October 1st/2nd, 2016.
