Voodoo Child wins the Blu26 Cup Zurich - Team Hazel the Bluboats Cup 2016
The teams simmered with excitement towards the Blu26 Cup Zurich / Autumn Price. A hot end of the season and Bluboats Cup Final 2016: Team Hazel and team Giachen Duas were apart only one point for the lead of the series.
After the general meeting of the class and a fine dinner at the Seeclub Zurich on Friday, it was said on Saturday morning that the Blu's are launched into the water and made ready to race.
The weather and wind played along. The first race could be started by the ZYC regatta team around Sascha Osterwalder at three beauforts. The notorious wind shift of the Lake of Zurich additionally gave that extra something to the Affiche. Not only the wind conditions but also the large field, which did not only consist of the Blu26 but other classes with their own start as well, had to be kept in mind. The second race was canceled at the first windward mark due to changing wind conditions.
In the late afternoon, the wind forcefully brushed up again and the second race could be sailed. The gust peak reached up to 5 Beaufort - many teams changed from Genua to Jib.
Voodoo Child was at the top of the leaderboard after the first day of racing with two victories, followed by Hazel and Giachen Duas with the level on points. Thus, everything was still undecided in the fight for the overall victory
Sunday began with slightly cooler temperatures and rain. However, there was already enough wind to take up the battles again in the morning. After the first race, it stopped raining, and even the sun was coming out at times.
Overall, three more races with excellent conditions could be contested on that Sunday.
Team Voodoo Child won this year’s autumn price with a significant lead of 5 points. Team Hazel and Giachen Duas ranked two and three.
In the fight for the overall ranking, team Hazel could barely beat Giachen Duas and thus was able to lift up the half model as a well-deserved trophy afterwards. A big thank you goes to the regatta organization of the Zurich Yacht Club with this year's support from the Enge sailing club!
The Blu26 season 2016 ends with this regatta. We can look back on a successful and fair season with many great and exciting races.
