Maloja wind at its best for the 7th Fleet Race Battle Engadin
The weather gods and the Maloja wind made this weekend to one of the season’s highlights for 14 crews. The legendary Maloja catered for perfect sailing conditions at 1800 meters over sea-level and for 25 dynamic runs with stable winds of 4 to 5, and up to 6 Beaufort in gusts.
The sunny weather and the impressive mountain arena offered a unique setting for this year’s Fleet Race Battle - the Engadin at its best for all participants, families, and fans. Team Regatta Club Bodensee is taking the win, followed by Team Sailingcenter Racing second und Team Hazel on third place.
This weekend, local heroes, imminent sailing champions and ambitious blu26 sailors have met for the 7thFleet Race Battle Engadin. The class traditionally travels light to St. Moritz as the boats are made available onsite. On Friday evening the Piöda dinner at Hotel Hauser created a great blu26 big-family atmosphere, before the teams met for 15 thrilling runs on Saturday. Short and dynamic up-and-down courses tested the crews as well as the material and presented an exciting first regatta day for the participants as well as the spectators. The social spaghetti dinner was an ideal occasion for debriefings and crew alignments before the second regatta day.
On Sunday the class had the pleasure to welcome Swiss Sailing president Martin Vogel. And again, a perfect sailing day with steady, but somewhat lighter, Maloja wind that didn't challenge the maintenance team as much as on the first day. After six runs, separate gold, silver, and bronze fleets each competed against each other. Team Regatta Club Bodensee with skipper Julian Flessati won the blu26 Cup St. Moritz 2018, in front of defender team Sailingcenter Racing with skipper Julius Thomas on second, and team Hazel with skipper Michael Klötzli on third place. What team will win the blu26 Cup 2018 overall will be defined at the blu26 Cup Zurich, 29-30 September 2018.
During the 25 runs the on-water umpires stayed close to the battles and ensured fair racing conditions on both racing days. The regatta committee led by Marc Knöpfel did an outstanding job. The blu26 class thanks all helpers onsite, bluboats, the sponsors and especially the Sailing Club St. Moritz for their support and the generous hospitality during the blu26 Cup St. Moritz 2018. We will be back!
